IF YOU ARE MENTALLY EXHAUSTED, TIRED OF THE DAILY CHAOS IN THE NEWS AND ON YOUR SOCIAL FEEDS, AND SEEK A REPRIEVE; THESE 7 STEPS WILL SPARK A NEW BEGINNING IN YOUR LIFE TODAY

I’ve always had a fascination with words, their meaning, and most importantly, their power. Consider these words:

  • Possibility

  • Adventure

  • Wonder

  • Abundance

  • Purpose

Do any of these words make you feel anything? Maybe you’re not a word geek like me, but I love these words, they make me feel alive.

SOMEDAY CAME…

On New Year’s Eve Dave and I took a couple of longtime friends on a sunset cruise on our boat, Someday Came. We were talking about the new year to come when my friend Heather looked at me laughing and said, “you are the only person I know who can write something down, put it on your mirror, and boom- make it appear!” She was referencing the very boat we were cruising on, that was an image on my vanity for years; hence the name Someday Came! In fact, it was once nothing more than a mere thought in my mind.

It’s sort of a running joke in our family that when I commit to something and post a goal, image, idea, or whatever it is I want to see manifest on the refrigerator, mirror, or in one of my many dream journals that it’s going to happen- it’s just a matter of when.

According to Forbes Magazine, vividly describing your goals in written form is strongly associated with goal success, and people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goals.

As you can see, there is nothing special about me other than I’ve learned to write my goals down in detail, believe in them, and leverage my mind. I’m living proof that thoughts become things and I’m going to teach you how to turn your thoughts into results too.

THERE IS NO STRAIGHT ROAD TO SUCCESS, THERE WILL BE DETOURS ALONG THE WAY, NO EXCEPTION

I have had my fair share of challenges for sure and you will too. For example, the boat I shared at the beginning of this blog was manifest in the strangest and most unexpected way. Prior to purchasing Someday Came, our family boat that we loved and took out weekly, Endurance sank- literally. The cable on our lift snapped during the night and the back of the boat filled with water, ultimately sinking the whole thing! We were devastated and unable to find anything we liked to replace it. In fact, it took two years to find a boat that suited our family yet what we found was exactly and strangely, what had been on my mirror.

So, while I typically blog about all things healthcare, to include assisted living and memory care, today my goal is to speak to you personally, to help you move beyond what was for many, a catastrophic year. Before we get down to business and start diving into assisted living sales and marketing , occupancy turnaround strategies, and improved business performance; I want to help you get clear in your head and remind you of your power; no matter what you’re facing.

THE PROCESS FOR YOUR OWN TRANSFORMATION

Since I can remember, I’ve consumed books, written positive affirmations, focused on my dreams, and pursed life with a passion. I think this is where my love affair with words began. It wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I began to truly understand their power. In my forties my confidence grew as I tested the limits of my mind and poured through decades of dream journals realizing that 90% of the entries were strangely, my reality.

Now, at 50, I am completely humbled and enthralled by this truth: Thoughts become things; it’s that simple. The lesson here? Be careful what you think. As my mom always said, “be careful what you ask for Traci because you’re going to get it!” Boy was she right (good and bad).

Have you ever stopped to wonder why?

  • People who say, “I just need to make enough money to pay the bills,” always seem to make just enough to pay the bills?

  • People focus on what it is they don’t want rather than what it is they do want: For example: I don’t want to end the month net negative, or I don’t want anyone else to quit, or I don’t want to miss my bonus…End the month net negative, have two to three people quit, and never see that bonus?

Words hold power and what you speak is what you reap. If you’re thinking “yeah right, not for me!” that’s exactly what I’m talking about. If that’s your mindset then you are correct, not for you.

That can change.

I regularly convey to my children Paris, 17 and Noah, 15 how this whole process works (think of it as brainwashing, ha!). When they were young, they thought I was a magician who could make dreams magically appear. Paris once said to me, “mom, everything you touch turns to magic!” That’s when I began to talk to them about my failures like when I had to rebuild my company from scratch due to a poor executive hiring decision, how I entrusted a partner early in my career with a shiny new American Express card and received a bill a month later for $30,000 that took me five years to pay off! So many lessons on the journey to my dreams. Anything worth having never comes easy but the reward is worth the fight, so fight!

It’s been years of repetition, but that brainwashing is starting to take hold; both Paris and Noah are finding their own power. It’s incredible to witness and I promise, the same holds true for you, your Company, your children, spouse; anyone who has a growth mind-set and is willing to learn, fail, get up, and try again until that mental muscle is strong.

On a more professional note, my last book, Get Your Girl Back , was a Best Seller and the summer of publication I spoke nationally to over 100,000 women- I still get emails and letters regularly on the principles I’m about to share here with you in this blog and how they transformed people’s lives. So, listen up, male or female!

HOW DO SOME PEOPLE JUST SEEM TO GET LUCKY WHILE OTHERS NEVER CATCH A BREAK? TAKE THESE 7 STEPS

How is it that words can be so powerful and why do some people easily manifest what they want in their life or business while others seem to never get a break? I’m going to divide a fool proof strategy into seven simple steps, all you must do is execute.

1.     Everything Starts with a Thought:

Is there something you’ve dreamed of, that you want so bad it scares you to say it out loud? Meaning, you don’t want to jinx the possibility of making that dream come true or perhaps you feel guilty for even having that dream? For me, it’s getting the Certificate of Occupancy today (yes today!) on a house that is my dream; yet that’s taken four years to complete due to one obstacle after another- including our builder walking off the job mid-way through construction.

Every day this week I’ve written down in my planner and claimed that CO, it’s going to happen and today is the day. When we started building our home Paris was a freshman and now, she’s a senior and has less than six months to live in our new home. Remember what I said about dreams? There is never a straight road, but the end goal is worth the hassle!

It’s your turn, muster that thought up right now and go for it, speak it out loud. It’s okay, it’s just a thought! My dream is to __________________________________________. This is where every great achievement begins.

The moment you claim that thought and own it, something magical happens and while I don’t understand it myself, I know it’s true. Call it divine intervention, energy, coincidence…the universe begins to move on your behalf and trust me, it’s not luck; it’s purposeful because you put it out there into the world so be open and receptive to what is to come.

2.     Cement Thoughts on Paper: This is an easy one

Transfer those words you just thought to paper, right now. When doing this, you give them life!

This is not an idea, it’s a proven fact so just do it- people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goals.

3.     Put Your Written Goal Where You Can See Them:

Place that thought, word, image, or goal where you can see it daily, weekly, monthly, or even just occasionally. I’ve found how often you read it is not what matters so much as the fact that you put it into the world on paper.

I used to think my goals had to be read daily to be manifest. Now I know that’s not true. It’s the simple process of having the thought and writing it down that matters. I’ve placed my goals on everything from vision boards and dream journals to typing them up and hanging them on the wall. The common trend among all these methods is that 90% of them have become my reality. We don’t have to understand it, we just need to do it!

Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California, recently studied the art and science of goal setting. She gathered two hundred and sixty-seven people together — men and women from all over the world, and from all walks of life, including entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare professionals, artists, lawyers, and bankers. She divided the participants into groups, according to who wrote down their goals and dreams, and who didn’t…

And she discovered that those who wrote down their goals and dreams on a regular basis achieved those desires at a significantly higher level than those who did not. In fact, she found that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis.

4.     Believe: The not so easy step

You must believe in your goal or dream and when negative thoughts creep in, correct your words and refocus them to state what it is you do want and can do rather than what you can’t.

This may be the most challenging part of all. You literally must retrain your brain. This means correct and restate thoughts that may rob you of your dream. The more you do this the easier it will get. A few tricks I used when I was in my thirties that helped me tremendously as I struggled with the guilt of making money (yes, most women deal with this in particular) was to find a mentor who had achieved what I was striving for and I would say this over and over, “If someone is going to have (money, this boat, happiness, a great marriage, etc.), it might as well be me!” It took a long time, meaning years; but I live guilt free today and fear nothing. The mind is a powerful thing, and you must get control of it rather than it controlling you!

5.     Release the Dream or Goal:

Let it go, meaning don’t obsess over it- just put it out there, allow that word, image, or feeling to take flight and in time you will notice things happening that seem to be coincidence but that are really on purpose; to support the fulfillment of your vision. Allow them in!

Your subconscious will work on your goals behind the scenes. Yes, you must do your part, but you don’t have to be in control, always driving the process- let your dreams unfold and enjoy the ride.

6.     (My personal favorite)- Keep Walking!

You may not know how to achieve a goal and that’s okay. I had no clue now to do half the things I’ve done in my life- from being a C English student to publishing three books, to landing on the Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda Kotb or hitting Inc. Magazine’s Fastest Growing Company List! I was the “at risk” teen people expected nothing from. Yet every single time I’ve set out to achieve something and hit an obstacle or feel ready to give up, I tell myself, “Traci, just keep walking. Put one foot in front of the other and do something!” It’s worked every single time. Do your part, starting with what you know to do and when in doubt, keep moving forward, one step at a time. Doors will open, people will come into your life and opportunity will show up that are according to divine timing. The single greatest lesson I learned during the pandemic is this: When stressed or worried, do something. Meaning, take some sort of action. The moment I start to feel panic or worry as a business owner, I pick up the phone, send an email, whatever it is I need to do to get past it and that results in protecting the viability of my business and team.

7.     Give Thanks:

Never, for a moment take for granted what you have in your life right now. I am a firm believer that abundance can only come to a person that is already grateful for what they have. I literally fall asleep most nights giving thanks for the blessings in my life and find incredible satisfaction in helping others discover the joy in theirs.

One of my favorite quotes is “you can’t do better until you know better.” Well, now you know! Trust the process and make 2021 a year of remembrance. You have the power to achieve any goal or dream you have, never doubt that truth no matter how challenging things are right now.
