#StillAlice – The Movie Raising Awareness for Alzheimer’s

If you have a memory care community or have worked in seniors housing since 2009, you have probably read the book Still Alice written by Lisa Genova. The novel is based on an incredible story about how an early onset dementia diagnosis affects Alice and her family. Since the Oscars on Sunday, the movie Still Alice has been trending on Twitter and capturing the attention of many after Julianne Moore won the Oscar for Best Actress. In her speech she stated she hopes this “shines a light on Alzheimer’s disease.”

“Julianne Moore and the women behind “Still Alice” have helped ignite a national conversation.” – Alzheimer’s Association

Also shedding light for Alzheimer’s awareness at the Oscars, Tim McGraw performed “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” written by Country Singer, Glen Campbell. This was the final song Campbell wrote as he continues to battle Alzheimer’s disease.

Based on the influence from the Oscars and the power of social media, much attention has been given to fighting Alzheimer’s disease. In response people took to Twitter and other social media networks to share their own stories. Twitter users tweeted personal stories and photos, using hashtags #StillAlice and #MyBrain
